Gary Numan
Claim to fame: Enjoyed much success in the UK and Europe with his group Tubeway Army in the late 70's, his career culminating internationally with his solo hit Cars.

Where are they now? Cars has enjoyed recent revivals in beer and (surprise) car commercials.
An aviation enthusiast, he attempted to circumnavigate the globe in his own light aircraft. It was on this adventure he was arrested in India on suspicions of being engaged in espionage, but was later released.
Over the course of the 90's he was the subject of no less than three tribute albums.

Reader "Sparky" updates us with further info, "Gary Numan has been on the scene for the last 25 years, and he is STILL active. His last recording, Pure, in 2000, has brought major attention to him, and increased his loyal fan base. The tour took him through 2001, and he is in the process of writing songs for the next cd, as well as touring the UK."
Update: Oct 2004: His single Crazier Made the UK top 20 in the singles chart. New and much anticipated album due shortly. Still selling out tours with his dark menacing new sound. Recently became a father.

Numan is playing a concert tonight in Toronto, along with Nash the Slash (local music hero for those of my vintage).
