Mostly remembered for her role as the 500 lb. Momma in the 1993 movie What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Darlene was literally hand picked for the role based solely on her appearance on Sally Jessy Raphael where she was promoting the T.O.P.S (take off pounds sensibly) program which the now housebound Darlene hosted out of her own home.
