Jan Michael Vincent
Claim to fame: Jan Michael Vincent was quite a rising star, Airwolf 1984 movie and subsequent television series, The Mechanic, opposite Charles Bronson, Buster and Billie, Baby Blue Marine, many more too numerous to mention here

Jan Michael Vincent
Where are they now? He's had his problems with drugs and alcohol, he was involved in a car accident in 1996 "resulting in a broken neck" (whose, I do not know), pleaded not guilty to DWI for that accident a year later. Spent 60 days in jail in 2000 for violating probation by being drunk in public. Arrested July, 2000 for battering his fiancee. The person who originally sent me this one said he was working as a security guard in Texas. Thanks to some due dilligence by readers Steve and Pam Albright, who went so far as to search a Texas database and found the security guard had his birthday March/3/1980 while our JMV seems to have been born July 15/1944. So that is officially considered debunked. The last thing he appears in is a movie called Whiteboy, directed by Abel Ferrara in 2002, in it he plays a racist sheriff. There is also an official JMV website which is currently inactive. Update: Mar, 2004: Reader Libby Hess reported some time ago that he is now living in Redwood, Mississippi, where he was admitted to River Region Medical Center in late 2002 and was seen by locals in a wheelchair, accompanied by a woman companion who attracts attention because of her "strange wardrobe". The locals pretty well leave him alone and wish him well.

Mr. Vincent seems to be getting along fairly well, as well as he was last year (2008) anyway. He's seen around Wal-Mart and other places around Vicksburg, but not very often. I will say that he looks better than he did on that TV interview he did several years ago. Today (Mon. March 30, 2009) I saw him and his female companion getting in their black conv. Benz. I don't believe he drives much anymore. One more thing...he always wears a jacket or coat of some kind.

THIS IS NOT A SIGHTING BUT YOU LEFT OUT ONE OF HIS MOST FABULOUS ROLES
WHICH WAS WITH ALLIE MACGRAW IN "THE WINDS OF WAR" MINI SERIES ON TV
STARRING ROBERT MITCHUM IN WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PRIZE WINNING ROLE AS
THE FABULOUS NAVY COMMANDER. IT WAS ONE OF THE DEEPEST ROLES HE EVER
PLAYED, SPEAKING RUSSION, ETC. LIKE A PRO. I WILL COME BACK LATER TO
SEE IF WHAT PRIZES THE SERIES WON. IT WAS INCREDIBLE AND SHOWED
VINCENT AS A GREAT ACTOR, MORE'S THE PITY.

As for him being in Mississippi in 2002, that is completely possible. In 2002/2003 I was working in a corner deli in New Orleans and he and his "wife" were regular customers. They lived around the corner on Chartres St. and we became friendly with them. He was severly alcoholic and pretty much incoherent most of the time. One night his "wife" called my house at 2 am and asked my boyfriend to come over and help her get him up out of the street and into the house. He had passed out in the gutter in front of his house and had to be carried inside. His "wife" calls herself Anna, but I do not believe that is her real name. His health is extremely poor and I would actually be surprised if he is not institutionalized at this point.

His last movie role was in the independent film White Boy, also titled Menace (for the US video version), released in March 2002.
In an interview on the TV program The Insider on September 18, 2007, when asked about the 1996 car accident, he answered, "Y'know, I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't remember being in an accident." He later discussed being an alcoholic.
As of 2008, Vincent resides in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

That website you posted was nice. Vicksburg, MS looks like it offers a lot of solitude. Well, I have Airwolf S. 1,2,3 on DVD, and lots and lots of us "Xers" and others still remember Airwolf, Knight Rider, Vice, and A-Team as the best shows of the time. Take care, Jan Michael.

He is said to be living on Eagle Lake, which is near Redwood. Lots of solitude there. Vicksburg just happens to be the closest town with significant retail stores, like Walmart, Belk, Dillards, JCPenny (very small version) and a few other locals.

I am familiar with many of Jan's acting gems. I pray he takes life "one day at a time" and cherish his peaceful times. I happened to have graduated from high school the same year Jan did (1963). Our high schools were only a few miles apart, (Visalia, California). We are, in a sense, Regional Brothers. A friend, Jake

My dad and I met JMV back in the '80's at the marina in Oxnard, Ca. He arrived in a convertible, some kind of Chrysler product. He came flying into the parking lot with some friends and made a screeching stop with the car across a couple parking spots. They jumped out and went down to a sailboat when they closed the door (companion way). Later, they opened it and sat around while the "smoke" cleared (you can guess it's source). Later, my Dad and I walked up to the restroom. It takes a card key to get in and JMV was just standing there...My Dad made a comment about being in a lot of hurt if he had to go bad (abbreviated and sanitized for public use). He just chucked and followed us in. He soon left and we didn't see him any longer. I think is was some time later that we heard about the fight in a western bar, etc.

Find him on Facebook at "Jan-Michael Vincent" and look at his picture. That really is him. We want everyone who truly cares about my husband to understand that he has always dealt with issues of health. It goes back to childhood. We have worked with some of the greatest specialists in the world to find a cure for epilepsy. Jan has suffered from this since he was very young. It has been falsely reported about his condition and the truly fine human being he is. I hope that one day he will be on the screen because he loves acting.

Every word that is written is not true. Jan is very bright, spiritual, meditates and yes he is very private as am I. He also has that great Cherokee heritage and is beyond handsome. Rest assured this man, my husband, is the greatest man I have ever known.

There is not a lot written about me but I was merv griffin's executive assistant for almost a decade. A part of my responsibility with his enterprises was confidentiality.

We are working on a collection of songs we have been writing and are planning on releasing them soon.

With a handshake in thought,

We do have a message... We believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that our soul goes on. The message has been searched over the ages and is found in the scriptures in our great spiritual leaders....be silent ...and know god...god is within meditation is the greatest respect for the vien of truth. As has been taught be silent and know god. God is within, Jesus was the greatest teacher ... It's a shame...hopefully someday when I leave I will be honored to meet him. I have often wondered why I was with born with the name christ...the annointed one." I believe in meditation...if we silence our minds there is a vein that flows through our being but it takes time. I have been meditating for over 40 years I studied with the monks at the lank shrine and sang in the choir . Jesus said be silent and know god...god is within. Silence your thoughts

In trying to understand why we have to go through losing our precious family and friends there is so much that in this lifetime we may never know whether it be science, logic, philosophy....religion or very simply love...caring for one another. I do believe that science has gone above and should be greatly commended for it's accomplishments

We are glad that you wrote back to us. We were so moved by my mother's passing that we sort-of rambled on and accidentally hit buttons on this site that said save comment but it sent them out. We have spent now 15 years together and we have done a lot of soul searching and writing and playing music almost entirely in the delta. We did try to get work for a long time but no one would help us. Big Wednesday ...one film that we both greatly admire we did a documentary for but it never saw an air date. Call the producer and he will confirm that he did long interviews with us. His name is Greg and his last name is hard to spell. But any surfer will know how instrumental Greg was to that surf scene with Lopez who was of course a world champion. When we found Lopez up in Alaska he said to me, anna, they are finally going to do something with my little film. I looked at jan and smiled and handed him the phone and these two great surfers were reunited after all this time. Look up Sam George, he was the director and Greg was the producer and trust me maybe if all of you started saying to the people that can give him a job, the producers and the stars who are current with production companies maybe they will realize that it's not just us saying he wants to work.

However, you have written about world's greatest athlete and I can't figure out how to capitalize the words ...so if there are errors in certain capitalization forgive us.

This movie is probably one of the most popular . He is amazing and it shows his athletic prowess and his vulnerability. It also shows the contact we had from the beginning..athletic ability and he admired the fact that my uncle George Doherty had played for the buffalo bills, he was head coach at northwestern university in Louisiana. He coached Bradshaw . He was dean of men at northwestern. I have to learn about this iPad. I do know this that jan and I met 30 years ago when my son was about two years old...we met acting...

My brother was in the war and every day we wondered if we would ever see him again. The movie jan made tribes is now my favorite because it gives me hope that after all we have gone through could it be possible that ideals are changing and is peace possible ... For our children's and man kinds sakes. I know that we all need to stay strong and we need to look to science and the great cures and that jan and I say Danny Thomas and Marlo Thomas are great humanitarians. They taught me how to sing, and in the long run it is my husband jan michael who has given me a truthful understanding of love and forgiveness. It is rare to be able to spend every Sunday as a kid growing up with George and Mary and to have Bradshaw come for dinner and all of us got out on the farm and played football . It was great to go down from shreveport to their home and go to spring training at northwestern.

It was unbelievable as a kid to grow up with such great athletes and it was something jan and I had in common. One time a few years back some guy was using Jan's name which happens more than you know and he does not appreciate it nor do I and jan told him you need to stop using my name and my work to your advantage. As we have said before there are organizations that you can get involved with...one is smile and it provides surgery to children who have been born with cleft pallets. The most memorable performance that I remember beside The Mechanic was a made for TV movie in which Jan plays a 'hippie' who gets drafted and goes through a very rigorous boot camp where he and the drill Sargent are at constant odds. Jan arrives in long hair and sandals and is instantly the target of the 'man'. Jan preservers whith his inner strength and peacenick personality. This movie influenced me a great deal and to this day, probably over forty years later I thank Jan for his portrayal of an underdog who never relinquishes his ideals. Jan, did deep, reprise this role in real life, I know you have it in you because you demonstrated your true fortitude in this movie. God bless.

On second thought, I currently have this fear of Jan-Michael Vincent's disliking my above question, my believing his left leg being amputated, especially when someone first calling his or herself a charlatan of Mississippi, states it, or worse, his disliking me, for believing it's being true, to begin with. What I do truly believe is that it really is actually Jan-Michael Vincent, and his wife Anna, having written above, the real truth about themselves, their being people, too, their lives, their ultimately being private people, wishing others' respecting that, and their lives, and their not trusting people they really don't know, at all. If really, truly caring about them, we should all recall that truth, ourselves, daily, mind our own business, as we'd like being treated ourselves, if being in their famous daily position, and just very truly always and forever wish Jan and Anna good, and better health, safety from any harm, great blessings, and great happiness, from our world saviors God and Jesus, is all.

I was a little girl when I first saw the Airwolf movie in 1984, and then Seasons 1 and 2 when I was 12. Being an only child, I used to enjoy watching Airwolf with my Dad. Now 30 years later, I enjoy the re-runs showing in South Africa, as it brings back many fond memories. I wish my Dad was still around to watch it with me. He would have been 70 this year. I will always be a fan of your work Jan-Michael, you just bring that something believable and sincere to your roles. My wish for Jan-Michael and Anna, and of course their loved ones, is peace, love and happiness. May God bless you all.

Dear Jan-Michael, A good friend of mine just called to say that a very big Hollywood star had just told him he could have been your twin. My friend remembered that I had told him the same thing 20 years ago. Needless to say, my friend is a beautiful man. I told him where to find you on the net so he can see for himself. I remember the first time I saw you on screen. I knew you were going to be one of the mega stars. Not because of your looks but because of that "thing" that all great actors have. It was in your eyes and your body language. You and I are about the same age and, every now and then over the years, I have checked to see how you are doing. I saw you interviewed about 2 years ago. It was disturbing to see you in that condition. But, even so, I could still see you. The real you. I sincerely hope that you are with someone who really cares for you and appreciates the impact you had on so many people. And, to Anna - If your brother is still with us, please tell him someone said "thank you for your service to our country". My brother is a marine and was wounded in Viet Nam. I wish the best for you. Hang in there...

Jan & Anna: So sorry Anna but I fell hard in love with your husband when he played in the Jungle Book. I also fell hard in love with him in a movie (cannot remember the name) where he was put to rigorous task beyond human expectations. In that movie, (as in your current lives, if this is you} he meditated about a love, love and was able to conquer the incredibly horrible way he was being treated. Perhaps this movie was an inspiration to your meditation ways today. Come visit us in Myrtle!! May the two of you always have peace and love. Best of wishes for your writings/songs and God Speed. I met him during the period of the mini-series: 'The Winds of War'.
I was teaching the emergency portion of his parachute training for his first jump. He proved to be as disinterested as I have ever seen a student act. He was without a doubt the worst student I ever had. He literally never touched the control lines which turn the parachute to the needed direction.
This occurred at a 'Soldier of Fortune Convention around 1983 or so, as I recall. He almost went though a barbed wire fence. Thank God I didn't sign-off on him, I refused to! I personally saw him drinking and smoking weed beforehand, another instructor saw him and his woman snorting cocaine out of their limo-van.
As I saw him running with the 10 knot wind and the speed his slow round parachute (about 15 mph), I imagined the newspaper headlines: "Movie Star Mauled for Life..."
Yup, made the right decision.
Lucky for him & the 'Confederate Air force', he cleared the fence by a matter of a few feet.
Of course everyone crowded around with congratulations.
Jesus, what idiots.

I just walked away disgusted.

I suspect Jan might be a person who has had psychological difficulties up through his years.
I also suspect that his a person who is highly influential, sort of when kids start smoking.

A big reason for this might be, people who are generously kind and open minded, tend to be more easily influated by others. In one of the interviews I read that he got introduced to the heavy gentlemen club where "real men" drank heavily. This coubled with a predisposition to addiction might lead to drugs and alcohol addiction.

His admitted to being an alcohol, and I personally believe his more easily affected psychologically. This might have been how his drinking problem developed, and when addicted, it's a hard habbit to knock off. Jan has stated several times his barely hanging in there, taking inco account his age and health problems, I would say that his will seems very strong to me, being able to stay sober and all.

I have a mom who barely has any willpower left, she has completley trown in the towel by over 90% if I were to guess, she barely gets any thing done theese days.

There is a saying, god helps people who help them selves. My mother doesnt help her self, Jan apparantly does, and to Mark. S racking down on Jan, this was apparantly 30 years ago, and did you ever stop to think the reason he barely touched the "stuff" was because he was high and or intoxicated and not because he didn't care ?

It's easy to rack down on people, some people only acknowledge and treat other people with respect if these people are strong, but as soon as someone is in a weak situation, they take off. People like this are hypocrits, if you only love people while they are strong and then take off when people close to you are weak, then you cant really love them afterall. This is what marriage is all about, through good days and bad days. It's a comitment, to love a perrson for who they are, and not only judge them by their misstakes. To be truly merciful and look past peoples vices.

I look at Jan and I don't see a has been famous hollywood star. I see a kind and gentle soul who has a lot of good in his heart. And it really breaks my heart to see him in such a volnurable and difficult state. He said in a interview he feels like his 16 years old, and that his ready to take on acting roles, and that he loves acting. This seems to be Jan's bliss and I really hope we get to see some more good acting from Jan, and even if he doesn't get to act again, I really hope he will live a good life full of love, compassion happiness and peace.

I would really like to meet Jan one day, but I have read Jan and Anna are private people so they probably like keeping to them self. Anyway, I wish you both best of wishes and may your dreams come true.

Mr. Vincent and wife, Anna, it was a great loss to Hollywood when you or your Manager basically ended your career. I am 71, and understand you are 70. This is your time to retire, and you will always have your memories. Watched the Winds of War for the second time on Netflix. You were outstanding in this miniseries. Alley McGraw(spelling?, but you get the gist of whom I am referring, was the worst acress. Did not like the casting of her playing your love interest in Winds of War, you carried her through out the show. It would make sense for you and Anna to corroborate on your auto- biography. I'd buy it. My husband and I began thinking about whatever happened to you, during the watching of Winds of War. I imagine both of you to be very quiet, somewhat reclusive people. This is the time of our lives when we can do whatever we wish to do. Enjoy being retired, but writing that book could bring both of you some much needed revenue. Just a suggestion.
Years ago, a young Merv Griffin and Betty (Rosemary's sister) Clooney visited Merv's Mother who was residing in a Nursing Home that my mother and father ran. I remember meeting them, of course I was about 5 years old, and that's 66 years ago.
God Bless you both. Diane

Was a childhood fan of Airwolf back in the 80's, I'm now 37. Still from time to time I'll fire up Netflix and watch an episode or two of Airwolf, it offers a chance to reflect back on childhood memories and look back fondly on times with family. My mom having passed in 93' and then my sister in 94' of cancer. I remember watching shows such as the Dukes of Hazard, Knight Rider, and of course Airwolf. I think the Bell 222 and in this case "The Lady" and her captivating appearance with JMV and EB made the show. Not gonna lie, I'd love to see a remake movie "pilot" with JMV starting off the movie by training a son, or possibly assume a co-pilot role like Dom to carry on Airwolf's legacy.

I've also fought my own issues with alcoholism in my 20's, but I can honestly say, I've come out of it better. So JMV has my best wishes and support from that front. Sincere prayers for healthy life, love, and family to Jan Michael and his family.

Dear Mr Jan Michael Vincent. I am 55 years old and remember watching you on airwolf growing up along with my older brother Randy also watching this show and loved it! I have seen some of the other movies you were in as well. I am from Alabama and so the most enjoyable movie you have been in is, Hooper. I have the tape of it and looking for the dvd of it. Loved your acting in it along with Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and others. This movie even my children loves it for I have played it over for us many times. Never will get tired of it, never. Loved those sites filmed in Alabama. I am extremely sorry to hear and know about the terrible things that has happened in your life to you, Mr Vincent. But please place your trust and faith in Jesus Christ, The Lord. For He will comfort you at all times. Please do not let anyone tell you how bad in the past you have been doing with your life. Just about all of us have made at least one mistake in our lives so far. Forgiveness is the key, inwhich we all should do is to forgive one another. Thank you for your acting and thank you for the memories you have given us Mr. Vincent. I still pray that you will be able to resume acting once again soon. Jan,

I also grew up watching you on Airwolf and became an instant fan. I had the ERTL model and the much smaller die-cast model of Airwolf. Sadly, lost them both to a home fire in 1985. Airwolf, you'll be glad to know, has been popular since it aired and a lot of people have even built radio-controlled models of the famous Bell 222B. One company, Vario, has built a version that has the chain guns and belly pod missiles. If I can ever regain any of my collection, that will be one of the first things - either that or a model of Airwolf by Aoshima from Japan.

I will continue to support you, sir, with my prayers. I always wanted to be you in Airwolf. I also suffer with a disability, Cerebral Palsy & Hydrocephalus and I also have many other health issues, sadly.

Much love and prayers to you, Jan and Anna. Don't let the negative idiots on here get you down!! Keep your spirit up!!

Take Care/God Bless,
Tony Trout

I too am a surfer, I spent many years sitting on a surfboard, waiting on a swell of my own. It's been 20+ years since I felt a swell rise under me, lift me up, and slide down the face of a wave that was meant for me. I left So Cal in 94, I live in Indiana now, I left what I loved for my family. The only thing stopping you from sliding down that face, is you, and you alone. I challenge you, get out of that chair, find your way to the beach you love, and paddle out. There's a wave, a wave with your name on it, seek it out, and make it yours. Let me know how it felt, I too one day will find that last wave of mine before I leave this world. We are all imperfect, we all make mistakes, you have, I have, everyone reading this has. You have made am impact, and some, like me, still have faith in you. Surfing, bodyboarding, it's all the same, it's a feeling, it's spiritual, go get it. God Bless, Jami Boulanger, Bloomington Indiana....

Especially since Jan-Michael Vincent and his wife Anna already very firmly, very truly confirmed way above, on this page, that everything above that, using Jan-Michael Vincent's name, is truly, honestly nothing but lies, is all, I most definitely, and most certainly don't believe, nor ever ever will, at all, that Jan-Michael Vincent's left leg's been amputated, at all. No matter what, no way, at all, not ever.

Oh my gosh, I just found out, in recent internet news about him, that I just wrote, on here, about Jan-Michael Vincent, is what isn't really true, at all, that he really has had his left leg amputated. However, still most definitely, truly sending Jan, and his wife Anna nothing but, and with no insincere pitying condescension, at all, whatsoever, within my message, only very strong, godly, and caring comfort, strong, godly strength, and still very much great happiness, and great health blessings, now, and always, from our true, great world saviors God and Jesus.

Mr. & Mrs. Vincent:
This is just to let you know that there are fans of Jan-Michael Vincent and
Airwolf who remember you quite well. I have all 3 seasons of the REAL
Airwolf with you and Ernest Borgnine on DVD (I don't count Season 4).
Honestly Airwolf was not the same show without you and Mr.Borgnine
as Stringfellow Hawke and Dominic Santini in it. I have seen these
stupid tabloids with stories about you and they are not worth the ink
and paper they are printed on and the impostor using your name on
Twitter should be absolutely ashamed of himself. I know that is
definitely not you. I am very sorry about the way you and your wife
have been treated on these web sites and overall. I hope you can
be left alone to live in peace and wish you both well in future.
There is only one Stringfellow Hawke of Airwolf--Jan-Michael Vincent.
Period. I hope they never ever do a TV or motion picture remake
of Airwolf because Hollywood like other classic TV show remakes
in recent years (theater releases) simply ruin the memory of the
original series for the fans/viewers.

At any rate, I hope you read this at some point and encouraged by these
supportive comments. As a TV show character once said, "Hang in there",
Jan-Michael. Don't let the jerks get you down. You keep right on fighting.
Stringfellow Hawke would.

Best regards, a loyal Airwolf fan.

Jan, I wish you the very best. I was born and raised in So Cal, left at 26 for the midwest(Indiana), to give my wife and kids a better life. I surfed from 8 years old, until 26. I miss the ocean deeply, I miss the smell, I miss the feel of a wave rolling up under me, and I miss sliding down it's face. I hope for you, and for me, that one day we will feel that again, even if only once. I'd put you on board myself in possible, unfortunately that's not realistic. Take care Jan, go paddle out, paddle out for both of us. Me, I doubt I'll ever see/smell/feel the ocean again. Jami...

Anna ~ if you really are Anna...Please call Dr. Drew Pinsky or Bob Forest. Ask for their assistance to help Jan stay or get clean & sober. There's a good chance he has untreated mental health issues which are impeding his ability to stay sober. If Tom Sizemore and Robert Downey Jr. can stay clean & sober, so can JMV.

Dear Mr. Vincent,

What a pleasure finding your website today. I was going down memory lane of things that meant a lot to me as a child and my sister mentioned your name. Yes, I said, he was so great in all those films and TV shows when we were growing up. I'm an out and proud gay man who when I was too young to know what *** was, found you to be very attractive and I didn't know why. My sister told me she always knew because of how my attention went to the TV instantly as soon as you were on screen. She was quite a few years older and was wise for her age. Anyways, I had wondered after we talked if you were still around because I'd not heard anything in the news so a quick internet search, a click here and there and I found this site. In reading the last few posts it sounds like you've maybe entered some difficult times. Please reach out for help should that be what you need because you deserve it Jan. You brought much pleasure to a generation that thinks of you fondly and loves your work. I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my thoughts through the Holiday seasons. I know they can be a difficult time with missing loved ones and family. I sincerely hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed and prosperous Happy New Year!
Let your voice be heard!
