Kristy McNichol, who is bipolar (manic-depressive), has given up show business because her disorder is exacerbated by stress. After leaving "Empty Nest" in 1992--to try to get her illness under control--she worked at a hair salon, was a camp counselor and taught acting at a private school in Los Angeles.
She also appeared in a few TV movies but seems happiest away from the pressures of the spotlight. After all, she started in Hollywood at the ripe old age of six!
