Penny Singleton's claim to fame
Philadelphia born Mariana McNulty played a variety of minor film roles before bleaching her brunette hair and gaining instant stardom in the Blondie movies from 1938 until 1950. Where are they now?
Far from her "ditzy" Blondie character Penny Singleton turned out
to be one tough cookie in Hollywood. Organizing unions for actors and
entertainers Penny opened doors for women in Hollywood by serving as president
for the American Guild of Theatre Actors and later as a spokesperson/activist
for improved working conditions for entertainers. In the 1980s Penny returned to
her craft as the voice of Jane Jetson in the popular Jetson's movies. She
passed away in 2003 at the ripe age of 95.
