They were both suffering from eating disorders. Suffering from bulemia, they quit the limelight at the zenith of their celebrity to recover after Sia overdosed on laxatives.

They are now recovered and are on the lecture circuit to spread awareness of eating disorders (namely bulemia and anorexia); they authored a book Dying to Be Healthy.

Shane married former Wiseguy actor Ken Wahl

. In 2003 they sued Hustler publisher Larry Flynt for publishing photos depicting "intimate sexual acts between the twin sisters".
